Case Overview
Plaintiff and class members allege that Amazon has been secretly collecting sensitive location data from users of popular mobile apps such as the Weather Channel, OfferUp, Speedtest by Ookla, Truecaller, and Zedge through its Amazon Ads Software Development Kit (SDK). While the Amazon Ads SDK is marketed as a toolkit for app developers and has been used to develop thousands of apps, it has another, undisclosed purpose: monetizing user data. Unbeknownst to users, the Amazon Ads SDK operates in the background of third-party applications, collecting location data from mobile phones and channeling it to Amazon for Amazon’s own monetary gain.
