Pay too much for Nuvigil to stay awake?
Keller Rohrback is investigating the high price of Nuvigil (generic name: armodafinil), a drug produced by drug manufacturer, Cephalon. Nuvigil is a critical medication used to reduce extreme sleepiness caused by narcolepsy, sleep apnea, shift-work disorder, and other sleep-related conditions. Hospital workers, truck drivers, fire fighters among others rely on being able to have affordable access to drugs like Nuvigil, to keep them awake and to keep us safe. The retail price of a month’s supply of Nuvigil currently ranges from $364-$1,076, depending on dosage.
On information that has come to light in a separate litigation, it became apparent that the manufacturer of Nuvigil allegedly conspired with another drug manufacturer to trade delaying the release of what would have been competing generic drugs on both sides in order that each manufacturer could extend the amount of time that they could sell their high-priced brand name drugs without generic competition, thus keeping the price of Nuvigil artificially high.
