Jaguar Land Rover Mild Hybrid Defect

  • Should be Empty:

Ray Serna v. Jaguar Land Rover Automotive PLC, et al.US District Court for the District of New Jersey
Case No.: 2:26-cv-10466

Case Overview

Keller Rohrback and co-counsel are pleased to announce the filing of a putative class action on behalf of owners and lessees of ‘mild hybrid’ Jaguar, Land Rover, and Range Rover vehicles. The complaint, filed in U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, arises out of Defendants’ failure to disclose or adequately repair defects of design and manufacturing in the Jaguar and Land Rover Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicles. Specifically, an essential component called a Direct Current to Direct Current (“DC/DC”) converter can fail, leading to widespread failure of the mild hybrid system.

The DC/DC Converter defect, which Plaintiffs allege Defendants were aware of as of July 2019, at the latest, can cause a range of serious malfunctions, including, but not limited to, loss of engine power or exterior lighting during active operation, charging system malfunctions, premature depletion of the 12-volt battery, and an inability to start the engine.

On April 17, 2026, Defendants issued a national safety recall under the auspices of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (“NHTSA”), which stated that:

“A failure of the DCDC Converter will result in a loss of 12V system charging, and a “Stop Safely Electrical Fault Detected” red warning. Should the customer ignore the warning and continue to drive, additional warnings may appear. Continuation of the journey will result in the vehicle losing motive power and coasting to a stop after a period of time, and eventually losing exterior lighting. A loss of motive power, or of vehicle lighting, will increase the risk of a crash.”

The Safety Recall also made clear that Defendants do not have a remedy for the defect and do not, at time of filing, have a timeline for a remedy to be rolled out to consumers.

Plaintiffs seek to have the vehicles permanently and completely recalled and repaired and seek  reimbursement for Class Members for any financial damages occurred as a result of the defect.
